The Strangeness of the Strangers
Saturday, November 28, 2009
al-Fudayl bin ‘Iyyad said:
“Stick to the path of guidance, and do not be hurt by the small number of people who take this path, and beware of the path of misguidance, and do not be fooled by the large number of people who destroy themselves on this path.”
['Uluww al-Himmah: pg. 41]
Sufyan bin ‘Uyaynah said:
“Traverse the paths of the truth, and do not be discouraged by the small number of people who do the same.”
['Uluww al-Himmah: pg. 41]
Dr. Muhammad Ahmad ar-Rashid said:
“As for the strangeness of the strangers mentioned in the hadith: “…glad tidings for the strangers,” then this is a strangeness in relation to the reality around a person. Meaning, glad tidings to them because of the rarity of such people, and their small number within the ocean of misguidance. As for the world of emotions and feelings, then the single believer has, in his belief, a close friend and companion that relieves the feeling of strangeness.
[al-Muntalaq'`: pg. 236]
Ibn al-Qayyim said:
“[Such a person] does not become disheartened by those who differ from and oppose him, as they are lesser in importance and significance, even if they might be greater in number, as some of the Salaf said: “Traverse the paths of the truth, and do not be discouraged by the small number of people who do the same.”
Every time you feel disheartened by your being alone on this path, then look to those who came before you and strive to catch up with them, and turn away from everyone else, as they will not benefit you in the least with Allah. If you happen to see them somewhere along the path that you are upon, then do not turn to look at them, for if you do so, they will distract you and simply delay your progress.”

The Carrier of the Flag of Islam..
Friday, November 13, 2009
Fudayl Ibn 'Iyaad (rahimahullah) is reported as saying:
“It is not for the carrier of Qur’aan to have a need of anyone from the creation but it should be such that the creation has a need of him. The carrier of Qur’aan is the carrier of the Flag of Islam, it does not befit him that he should indulge in nonsense speech with those who do so, nor should he be so forgetful with those who forget nor should he waste time in play with those who waste time in play.”

They Love To Remind..
Friday, November 6, 2009
Ibrahim ibn Ash'ath: 'Whenever we went out with al-Fudayl to a funeral, he would continously advice and remind the people, and he would weep such that he became like someone leaving his companions behind, on his way to the Hereafter. This would be so until he reached the graves (during the funeral procession), whereupon he would sit as if he were among the dead - he'd sit in sadness and in tears until when it was time for him to go, it was if he had returned from the Hereafter with some news.'

The Tawbah of Al-Fudayl Ibn Iyaad
Monday, October 19, 2009
He is renowned as one of the pious Salaf, and many wise and inspiring statements are related from him. Allâh have mercy on him. Here is the story of how he made tawbah.
Al-Fadl Ibn Mûsâ reports:
Al-Fudayl b. ‘Ayyâd used to be a highway robber, between Abyûrd and Sarkhas. He was in love with a girl, and the cause of his repentance was that he was once climbing a wall to meet her when he heard someone reciting the following verse:
"Has not the time come for those who believe, that their hearts should be humbled and submitted (to Allah)…? [Al-Hadeed: 16]
When he heard this, Al-Fudayl said, “Indeed my Lord, it is time.”
Adh-Dhahabî describes Al-Fudayl b. ‘Ayyâd as an Imâm, an example, and Shaykh Al-Islaam.

So he left, and seeking a night’s shelter he found himself at some ruins, and there he saw some travelers. Some of them said, “We should move on.” Others said, “Wait until morning, Al-Fudayl operates in this area, he will rob us.” Al-Fudayl said, “So I thought and said to myself: I spend the night in sin and there are some Muslims here who fear me; I think that Allah only led me to them so that I might take lesson and stop what I am doing. O Allah! I have repented, and as part of my tawbah I will live next to Al-Bayt Al-Harâm (in Makkah).”
-Al-Dhahabî, Siyar A’lâm Al-Nubalâ` in his biography of Al-Fudayl b. ‘Ayyâd.

Fear of Allah [Subhana wa Ta'ala]
Thursday, October 8, 2009
“Man’s Fear of Allah is Equal to His Knowledge of Him and His Renunciation of the Life of This World is Equal to His Desire of the Hereafter. Whoever Acts According to What He Knows, Allah will Make Him Successful in What He Doesn’t Know. And Whoever Is Ill-tempered Disgraces His Honour, Religion and Generosity.”
